- A 2019 review of studies finds that overall, both men and women have positive results in terms of increased hair thickness and regrowth.
- This treatment costs significantly less than hair transplant surgery, because it’s a non-surgical treatment, and is not guaranteed to grow new hair, unlike hair transplant surgery.
What are PRP injections and how do they work?
PRP or platelet rich plasma injections are an in office procedure that leverages growth factors released from platelets in your own blood to stimulate hair follicle activity and promote new hair growth. A small vial of blood is taken from a vein in your arm and processed to increase the concentration of platelets in a fraction of plasma. This platelet rich plasma is then injected into the scalp in areas of hair thinning.
Is there any downtime or side effects associated with PRP injections for hair loss or thinning?
There is generally minimal downtime associated with PRP injections. Some potential side effects include bruising, soreness, headache or temporary swelling of scalp and forehead.
